Mrs. Johnson

Mrs. Johnson doesn't seem to approve of the way Mama has spent the $10,000. Among other things she says:"Ain't it something how bad these here white folks is getting here in Chicago! Lord, getting so you think you right down in Mississippi! 'Course I think it's wonderful how our folks keep on pushing out. You hear some of these Negroes round here talking 'bout how they don't go where they ain't wanted and all that--but not me, honey! Wilhemenia Othella Johnson goes anywhere, any time she feels like it! Yes I do! Why if we left it up to these here crackers, the poor niggers wouldn't have nothing--Oh, I always forgets you don't 'low that word in your house."Why do you think Mrs. Johnson is so upset at the idea of the Youngers moving?

  1. I think Ms. Johnson is a little worried for the youngers and possibly a little jealous but over all I'm not sure how she feels i just know that ms. Johnson is against the idea.

  2. I think that she likes the youngers and she wants them to stay. Also she said in the newspapre there was boming and she doesn't want them to get hurt. Also, what i think about Mrs. Johnson is that, to me, she sounds that she gossips alot.

  4. I think Mrs.Johnson doesn't want them to leave because she knows that people keep moving where they aren't wanted and she feels that it isn't a good idea eventhough they shouldn't be pushed around by racism all the time. She also thinks that they should because it's not fair.

  5. she is upset because she doesn't want to see the youngers hurt because in the new neighborhood there are only white people and they might not like the idea of black people moving into thier neighborhood

  6. I think Mrs. Johnson is upset because she's jealous & yet, she knows it's dangerous for the Youngers to move.

  7. By the looks of it, Mrs. Johnson believes that being African American shouldn't hold you back from doing whatever you wanted just because of their color. However, she does mention that the family is going to get "bombed" living in that white neighborhood. What she meant by this, in my opinion, was that although they are going to be living in that white neighborhood, it doesn't necessarily mean that they are one of them and that the respect for their race will ever improve because they will still be considered blacks in their eyes.

  9. Mama spent 3.5 thousand dollars to buy a house in a white neighborhood. she gave the rest of the money to walter for his liquor store and for beneatha's college money. Ms johnson probably doesn't like the idea of mama buying a house in a white neigborhood. she talked about how the white people are going to bomb them out of their house. she is kind of saying that just because you have a house in a white neighborhood doesn't make you white.

  11. Mrs. Johnson doesn't approve of the way that Mama spent the money because she knows that even though they have the money to live in a white neighborhood that they will still be seen as african americans. They won't be treated any better, just because they have more money

  14. I think she is upset because she is use to being with this family and it wouldnt be the same without them there. Its always different when you are use to being with someone and you feel so comfortable around them but then when they leave, you feel lonely and you have no one to talk to and i think that is how Mrs. Johnson feels about it.
